New York City Celebrates the 10th Annual National Voter Registration Day

Today community organizations across New York City will host more than 50 voter registration drives to celebrate the 10th Annual National Voter Registration Day. The goal is to help all eligible New Yorkers get registered to vote in the midterm elections in November.
We estimate that more than 78,000 city residents will turn 18 this year and become eligible to vote. Here's how that estimate breaks down by borough:
- 18,000 in The Bronx
- 23,000 in Brooklyn
- 13,000 in Manhattan
- 19,000 in Queens
- 5,000 in Staten Island
"In this exciting mid-term election year, new voters have a great opportunity to get involved at a critical point in New York City's political life," said Amy Loprest, Executive Director of the NYC Campaign Finance Board. "We are thrilled to be working with many of the same stellar community organizations that we partnered with for the first National Voter Registration Day back in 2012. Now that we are holding these events in person again, let's make it the best NVRD ever and help get New Yorkers to the polls in November."
"It's crucial in this moment for New Yorkers to stand up," said New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams. "To make their voices heard, to make their vote count, to help make our government reflective of and responsive to the needs of our communities. On National Voter Registration Day, we are called not only to make sure that each of us vote ourselves, but that we get resources and the registration opportunities to communities across our city. Our government has a responsibility to make both registration and voting as accessible as possible for all neighborhoods. Each of us then has a responsibility to use our vote to shape our government."

“For the sixth year in a row, the YMCA of Greater New York is pleased to partner with civic engagement organizations citywide for National Voter Registration Day,” said Sharon Greenberger, President & CEO of the YMCA of Greater New York. “Nearly all of our branches citywide will offer voter registration this year, because the Y understands that communities are stronger when all New Yorkers make their voices heard.”

"We are in the midst of a climate catastrophe, and we need our elected officials to lead us in assuring future generations have a sustainable planet," said Mark Laster, Co-Chair of the Forest Hills Green Team. "Voting is one way all of us can assure we elect leaders with a vision to deal with climate change. The Green Team will hold a voter registration drive on Sunday, September 25, at the Compost-Pa-Looza event at the Queens Botanical Garden."
