2nd City Council District

1. What is the most important issue in Council District 2 you would address if elected?

Since the early 90's, District 2 experienced dramatic overdevelopment; luxury housing, and massive community facilities that changed the character of our neighborhoods. As Councilwoman, I worked with residents on several community-based rezoning plans to restrict high-rise construction and create affordable housing. I introduced and will work on passage of legislation that will require additional affordable housing, modify restrictions on community facilities, and protect landmarked buildings.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

Quiet Enjoyment My district has been saturated by overdevelopment, lively bars and restaurants leading to excessive noise and traffic congestion. I will continue to work with residents and city agencies so that nearby residents can quietly enjoy their homes.

Education We need our fair share of funding for smaller classes and after school programs that will allow all children to succeed. Teachers and paraprofessionals' wages must be sufficient to keep the best educators in our schools. Pre-K must be the point of entry for children into our school system.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

I have been an advocate and community organizer for more than 20 years, bringing that experience to City Hall. I have been an effective legislator for the past four years with a solid record on issues affecting residents in my diverse district. I am proud that the Human Rights Project of the Urban Justice Center ranked me 5th for my legislative work in advancing human rights.
