1. What is the most important issue in Council District 35 you would address if elected?

Foremost issue is affordable housing/fair development.

 

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

Major issues are education, developing infrastructure, job access, small business interests, and social/economic equality.

 

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

Since taking office in Jan 04, I have:
-fought over-development/improper use of eminent domain, such as Atlantic Yards; and plan to place Citywide men's shelter into Central BK armory/intake center. Mobilized tenants against scrupulous landlords.

-spoke against misuses of political power such as elected officials being given third term without public vote.\plain\f1\fs20\i

-spon. NY law 2007/29, which addressed Alternative Enforcement by Housing Department and violations of housing code. Int 938, which addressed Department of Corrections reporting to Council violence involving adolescents, was signed into law. Spon. bills being considered by Council including Int 938, which addresses Department of Corrections developing discharge program for adolescents leaving jails; and Int 685, which addresses economic/racial disparities in City housing.

-been advocate for minority/women's businesses, for fmrly-incarcerated, and LGBT community.

-worked with law enforcement to address crime.

My future policy focus includes:

-expanding jobs; developing green jobs; and developing food access network; incorporate food pantries and local farmers/grocers.
