Official Voter Guide for Queens City Council Special Election Now Live

01/14/2021

The NYC Campaign Finance Board (CFB) published its official Voter Guide for the special election for City Council District 24 in Queens taking place on February 2, 2021. Voters in the district may view the guide to learn about the candidates on the ballot by visiting voting.nyc and clicking "read voter guide".

This election will use Ranked Choice Voting. Voters can rank up to 5 candidates in order of preference, instead of choosing just one. Voters may learn more about Ranked Choice Voting through the resources available on the CFB's website.

City Council District 24 includes Kew Gardens Hills, Pomonok, Electchester, Fresh Meadows, Hillcrest, Jamaica Estates, Briarwood, Parkway Village, Jamaica Hills, and Jamaica. Voters in these neighborhoods have three options for casting a ballot in the special election:

  1. Early voting: open from January 23 to January 31. Voters may click "where to vote" on the voting.nyc website to find their early voting poll site, dates, and times of availability.
  2. Election Day: Polls are open for voting in person from 6am to 9pm on the day of the election, Tuesday, February 2.
  3. Vote by mail: Request an absentee ballot by January 26 to vote by mail. Voters may mail in their ballot (postmarked by Election Day), or leave it in a drop box at any poll site or Board of Elections office through Election Day.

The official Voter Guide for the Council District 24 Special Election is produced as part of the CFB's voter engagement initiative, NYC Votes. The CFB creates an online voter guide for every NYC election listing the candidates expected to appear on the ballot.

In addition to the voter guide, the CFB's voting help website, voting.nyc, provides information about how to vote by mail, early, or on Election Day, including tools for New Yorkers to research their voter registration status, find their poll sites, and answers to questions about their voting rights and eligibility.

The CFB creates a voter guide for every election listing all candidates who are on the ballot at the time of publication. The profile information and photos are submitted by the candidates, all of whom have affirmed that the information provided is true to the best of their knowledge. Candidates without profile information or photos did not respond to requests to participate.
