As a resident and member of the East Harlem “El Barrio” community for many years I have contributed to making our community a safer and more enjoyable place to live. My active participation includes being the proprietor of Edwin’s Cafe a restaurant located in the heart of “El Barrio” on the southwest corner of East 111th Street and Third Avenue. My restaurant has set new standards of quality and service in fine dining - specializing in seafood and Puerto Rican cuisine.
For more than three decades I have brought numerous musical, dance and theatrical productions to the community highlighting the talents of local artists and also world class international artistic productions.
When Puerto Rico, the island of my birth, was devastated by a hurricane I organized a drive to collect and send tens of thousands of dollars worth of relief supplies including food, clothing and medical supplies to help relieve the suffering of the island’s residents.
At the present time I am the President of the East Harlem Community School Board of which I have been a member for four years. By ensuring that the children receive a firm grounding in the basics in our schools we build a firm foundation for their success in their future endeavors.
As a member of the New York City Council representing East Harlem I will be able to provide even more resources to our schools.
I would like to ask you - my neighbors and friends to vote for me, Edwin Marcial in the Democratic Primary election on Tuesday, September 9, 2003. And I extend a most cordial invitation to the East Harlem community to stop by and say Hello to Edwin Marcial anytime at Edwin’s Cafe located at 111th Street and Third Avenue.
