I am running for City Council because I believe I will make a difference in how we approach problems and work together to solve them. We must organize block by block and engage the energy of our neighbors.
I raised a son as a single mother, while working and going to school to become a Certified Nurse’s Aide. My son attends the same local schools, summer camps and libraries that I did. As a lifelong Bronx resident, I’ve had the same struggles and successes as other members of this community. I became a Union organizer in order to give back to my community and to protect and sustain workers rights.
In order to be viable, our community must be creative in devising initiatives that speak to the reality of the chronic issues we face:
*We have a shortage of affordable housing stock, with spiraling rents and poor services.
*Our schools cannot continue to graduate only 30% of our children. Day care and after school programs are critical for working parents, but they are scarce in this district.
*We must be creative in job creation, retention and training initiatives that include young people, and we need to attract businesses and entrepreneurs to assure sustainable economic development.
*We must provide affordable and quality health care services to everyone, especially our elderly and disabled. I have devoted my adult life to ensuring that patients and providers are cared for in safe, healthy environments.
*In order to rid our community of drugs, we must unite to improve our strained community-police relations.
I will bring honesty and integrity to these issues. I know that by working together, we will make a difference.
