My background is in City affairs, and community development. Appointed by Borough President Markowitz to Community Board 9 and voted to its Executive Committee. I have worked to enhance the quality of life and greenery of our community, and opposed the Gowanus power plant. My priorities are in education. We are all endowed by our Creator with great ability. Self-respect, discipline, and achievement serve our youth well. We must bring in the highest quality teachers. I support expansion of the Jackie Robinson School for talented students, and will work with Medgar Evers College to coordinate achievement. Our children should observe a ‘moment of silence’, providing a daily anchor in a turbulent world. I was pleased by the positive results of school uniforms as implemented by School District 17. Teaching basic moral and ethical values has resulted in that District’s having become the best-advancing district in this city over the last 3 years. Police protection ought to be ample and equitable. I support programs that encourage police and school children to respect one another. A good community starts with our youth and extends to our senior citizens. We must reduce infant mortality. I am committed to Conservative Values that have been the tradition in our district for many years. One example of the erosion of these values has been the weakening of Workfare reform. The program, designed to bring people who are on welfare into the workforce, has been altered by bending the rules and inventing “work equivalents” which result in a culture of dependency. The Mayor’s promise to keep our taxes down has been violated by excessive taxation, and government by summonses. I will vote against the continuing series of devastating tax hikes.
We must not forget the victims of terror, and I commend the Police Commissioner for working together with Israel to develop a joint strategy for making both our countries safe. I support a readiness network designed to ensure a quick response with the September 11 fund applied to keep Firehouses open.
