About the Voter Guide

Take a closer look...

This past spring, New York City held special elections in Council districts 40 and 51 to temporarily fill vacancies in the City Council that happened because the incumbent Council member was elected to a higher office before his or her Council term was over. This fall, voters in Council district 40 in Brooklyn must choose who will represent them for the remainder of the term, which runs through the end of 2009. (In district 51, Council Member Vincent Ignizio is running unopposed for the seat he won in the special election, so that race is not covered in this Guide.)

Special elections often have low voter turnout. We urge voters in district 40 to read the candidate profiles in this official, nonpartisan New York City Voter Guide and go to the polls to elect their representative to the City Council.
