1. What is the most important issue in Council District 30 you would address if elected?
Limiting tax hikes by insuring the passage of recently introduced legislation requiring a 2/3 vote at the City Council before the administration can raise any tax.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
The following issues will need immediate action: continue Mayoral control of our educational system with an increased, substantive role for parents; reconfiguring Department of Transportation policies and practices regarding the placing and timing of traffic lights and other controls to eliminate congestion; insure residential "downzoning" to protect our neighborhoods from overdevelopment; take legal action against absentee landlords who turn their homes into SRO's; work closely with the Mayor's Office of Management and Budget to insure that limited capital funds are utilized in our district for parks, street repair, and to maintain a high level of police staffing by obtaining patrol cars, undercover vehicles and mobile command centers to insure a rapid police response; and require thorough environmental studies before a school is constructed.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
At a time of serious economic constraints, my hands on knowledge and experience in City government and budgetary finances will give me the opportunity to maintain and insure the proper level of school funding, capital improvements and City agency services including police, fire and sanitation to best serve and protect our community. In addition, my staff members have and will utilize their considerable experience to work closely with civic associations and individual citizens to help solve their concerns and eliminate community nuisances.
