1. What is the most important issue in the city you would address if elected?
NYC's Comptroller acts as the investment advisor to the $100B public pension funds. As taxpayers are required to bail out these funds, they are currently not managed to be self-sustaining but rather used to line the pockets of an elite group of insiders and cronies. I will apply private enterprise principles to the management of these funds. I will manage them so that the City will meet its responsibilities & obligations without relying on taxpayer bailouts.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
I would examine the spending of every City agency. I am not a career politician beholden to special interest groups so there will be no sacred cows. Where corruption, fraud or waste is discovered, it will be made public and those responsible will be held accountable. I will remake the Comptroller's Office into NYC's non-political and non-partisan fiduciary, guarding City finances fairly, responsibly and without political agenda.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
I am the only candidate that has direct and relevant money management, compliance and risk abatement experience which the Comptroller needs in order to be an effective investment advisor to the $100B public pension funds. As our economy contracts and remakes itself in the wake of the latest downturn, now is not the time to entrust the crucial task of managing the City's finances to a career politician who will use the office as a platform to run for Mayor. I seek to become Comptroller as I have the background, experience and competence to properly perform the duties and responsibilities of the Comptroller's Office.
