The 150 thousand plus residents of City Council District 8 are from El Barrio/East Harlem, the South Bronx and the West Side. They are Latino, African American, Asian and White. Although primarily comprised of East Harlem the challenges facing the sectors of the South Bronx and the West Side are the same--threats to our social and economic well-being.
My vision is one that incorporates all sectors of the district, where the participation of the community is seen as a goal--not as a threat, where the resources we possess within ourselves are valued and encouraged--not discarded and forgotten. Leadership development, safeguarding our environment, local and community-based economic development as well as educational opportunities are key to my candidacy and are reflected throughout my extended years of service. I will work diligently with all communities to strengthen the municipal services being provided and to guarantee their effectiveness.
I have the training, commitment, diligence and experience to effectively represent all constituents. I am excited about this opportunity and have greatly enjoyed meeting you and those like you--my potential constituents--to share in concerns and learn from your experiences.
I am committed to being an accessible candidate to all of District 8. My enthusiasm stems from my understanding that responsible and ethical leadership should be the norm and not the exception to the rule. Being granted the privilege to serve as your City Council Member for District 8 is not one I will take lightly nor one I will take for granted. I look forward to working alongside you.
