1. What is the most important issue in Council District 22 you would address if elected?
Energy efficient, affordable housing. We can eliminate the need for new power plants in our neighborhood. Energy conservation reduces demand on the power grid while our flat roofs are perfect for solar panels. A new green economy focused on energy efficiency will lower utility bills, reduce energy use - and our reliance on foreign oil - improve public health, maintain affordable housing and create good, green jobs that can never be shipped overseas.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
We need seven-day library service. I love libraries! A safe after school space for kids, they are a great community resource where people can apply for jobs and learn new skills. We need to expand materials and services for the visually impaired and seniors. Our schools and libraries should be models of sustainability so New Yorkers of all ages can learn how easy it is to save money and save the environment.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
I'm offering practical solutions for clean, green neighborhoods and thriving small businesses. I will fight for more parks and community gardens, improved waterfront access and healthy in schools. I will advocate for reliable, accessible and affordable transit options. Last year the City Council - including the incumbent - made an undemocratic power grab when they voted to extend term limits. This election, you have a choice between a political power structure stuck in the past and a progressive future. I ask for your vote.
