1. What is the most important issue in Council District 39 you would address if elected?
The District badly needs more pre-k seats and more high quality middle school choices.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
Public transportation needs to be improved and funding identified to do so. We need to ensure that the Gowanus Canal is cleaned to the highest standard possible. Basic services such as clean parks and open libraries must be prioritized in the City's budget and we must implement policies that support local businesses not big box stores and the development of sports stadiums. We need a car free Prospect Park.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
I am both the most experienced candidate in terms of actually getting things done in City government and also the most independent candidate who is not tied to interest groups and political power brokers.
I know how to work with the City's bureaucracy so will be very capable on quality of life issues, but I am also someone concerned with seeing a City that is more sustainable environmentally, where there is economic opportunity for people from all walks of life, and where economic development policy strengthens neighborhood character rather than destroys it.
The Mayor and the Council pulled off an anti-democratic coup by extending voter approved term limits from two to three terms. I have the independence and know how to challenge the status quo and push the Council to provide truly democratic representation.
